STATEMENT

This collection was inspired by Thai tattoos and the secular, animistic, and ritualistic roles of Buddhism in everyday life in Thailand. Illustrations of dogs translated into prints and embroideries mirror our own animus with which we strive to carve out a path for ourselves in life. The imagery used and their placements serve as talismans, reminding us that in the face of adversity and obscurity, great or small, there is always a chance for redemption. And the redemption cries out that there is a need for good—there is a need to compel, to fix, to propel.

BACKGROUND

"We began designing this collection around the time my grandfather (Dr. Thanat Khoman) passed away. The funeral process lasted for around one hundred days. Since I was not able to return home to Thailand, during this time, I observed the process vicariously through photos friends and family were posting. The lavish decoration engulfed the solemn attendants; their jet-black attire punctuated the sea of brilliant metallics, the sumptuous saffron of the monks' robes, and the lush pinks, reds, and greens of the floral arrangements. Trinkets of modern life stood out of scenes painted by history and tradition. This contrast was always what felt most like home to me."        — Wow Khoman
